Catholic University of America International Student Insurance

The Catholic University of America, located in Washington, D.C., was established in 1887 with a papal charter by Pope Leo XIII. It was founded as the national university of the Catholic Church in the United States, intended as a graduate research center that would merge religious doctrine with intellectual rigor. The school opened to undergraduates in 1904. Its academic colors are gold and white, athletic colors red and black, and the athletic mascot is the cardinal.

On Campus

The campus lies just a 10-minute train ride from Washington, D.C., institutions like Capitol Hill, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Library of Congress, giving students the opportunity to participate in everything the nation’s capital has to offer. CUA is one of two American universities to have hosted a Pope and the only one that can boast three separate papal visits: Pope John Paul II in 1979, Pope Benedict XVI in 2008, and Pope Francis in 2015.

The school is known for its longstanding partnership with the Knights of Columbus, a source of funding and support since the university’s inception. Its most prestigious academic institutions are the Columbus School of Law and the Theological College.

Notable Alumni

Notable CUA alumni and attendees include dozens of cardinals and bishops in the Catholic Church; actors Ed McMahon, Susan Sarandon, and Jon Voight; news anchor Brian Williams; and the first African-American U.S. recipient of a doctorate in geology, Marguerite Williams.
