Creighton University International Student Insurance

Creighton University is a small, private, Jesuit university in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. When philanthropist Mary Lucretia Creighton died in 1876, she left a stipulation in her will that a university be established in honor of her late husband, banker Edward Creighton. Bishop James O’Connor and other members of the Society of Jesus answered the call and opened the school in September 1878.

The first and largest college at Creighton was the College of Arts and Sciences. Major additions to the school since its founding include the John A. Creighton Medical College in 1892, the School of Law in 1904, the School of Dentistry in 1905, and the Graduate School in 1926. Women attended Creighton’s professional schools starting in 1892, but it wasn’t until 1951 that they were granted admission to the full spectrum of all the university has to offer.

The school’s colors are blue and white, and its athletic nickname is the blue jays.

Community Service

As a Catholic university, Creighton emphasizes community engagement. Every year, students and faculty contribute more than 15 million service hours to the city of Omaha through partnerships with local medical centers, legal clinics, homeless shelters, and more.

Notable Alumni

Notable Creighton alumni include astronaut Michael P. Anderson, who was aboard the space shuttle Columbia when it broke apart; Marcia Anderson, the first African-American woman to achieve the rank of major general in the U.S. Army Reserve; and Donald Keough, former president and COO of Coca-Cola.
