New York University Los Angeles International Student Insurance

NYU Los Angeles (NYULA) is a “study away” site of New York University located in Los Angeles, California. It opened in fall 2019. Its student body consists largely of NYU students pursuing careers in the entertainment and media industries. Its subject areas of interest include business; film and television; media, culture, and communication; the music business; and recorded music. The NYULA program lasts for one semester and gives priority to upperclassmen (juniors and seniors). It accepts a maximum of 25 students per semester.

Student Opportunities

Students enrolled in the NYULA program are required to participate in an internship or similar professional development experience during their semester. Internships may be paid or unpaid. Staff will help students find and connect with organizations in the area, but students are responsible for interviewing and securing their internship experience. Sample organizations include film and television studios, production companies, TV networks, record labels, music publishing companies, talent agencies, news organizations, and public relations and communications firms.

The NYULA faculty is made up of local industry professionals like executives, producers, writers, and lawyers. One NYU official has noted that the program isn’t tailored for prospective actors—it’s intended for people who want to work behind the scenes.

Facilities

The NYULA classrooms and offices are located in the Fairfax/La Brea area of the city. Nearby LA attractions include the Original Farmers Market, the Writers Guild Foundation Library, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. The student apartments, located within walking distance of the academic center, have access to amenities like a gym, a pool, and a business center.
