Northeastern State University Muskogee, located in Muskogee, Oklahoma, is a branch campus of Northeastern State University that opened in 1993. It occupies a 27,700-square-foot facility on a 23-acre campus. The university is geared toward working adults attending college on a part-time basis, and many classes are scheduled in the evening, nighttime, and online for convenience. NSU Muskogee enrolls about 1,400 students and counting each year.

Academic Offerings

The university serves upper-level undergraduate and graduate students with classes in education, business, general studies, nursing, industrial management, and more. It offers four graduate degrees in occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, school administration, and special education Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as a graduate certificate in visually impaired studies. 

NSU Muskogee hosts a variety of local events every year. It’s also an active member of a nine-institution partnership in Oklahoma’s Reach Higher program, a statewide program designed to help working adults earn bachelor’s degrees. 

About Northeastern State University

The main campus of Northeastern State University, located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, was established in 1909. Its history traces back to 1846, when the Cherokee National Council established the National Male and Female Seminaries. In 1909, the State of Oklahoma purchased the Cherokee National Female Seminary and turned it into the Northeastern State Normal School, a training institution for teachers. By 1921, it had started offering a four-year curriculum leading to a bachelor’s degree and was renamed Northeastern State Teacher’s College. It became Northeastern State College in 1939 and Northeastern State University in 1978.
