University of Colorado Boulder International Student Insurance

The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder), located in Boulder, Colorado, was established in 1876 after the Colorado territorial legislature passed a constitutional amendment allocating funds for a university. The school opened its doors to students in 1877 and included a high school on campus. Today, UC Boulder is the flagship school of the University of Colorado system. It enrolls more than 33,000 students and counting each year. Its colors are silver, black, and gold, and its athletic nickname is the buffaloes.

Research Opportunities

Notable research initiatives on campus include the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics and JILA. The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics began in 1948 and is the world’s only research institute to have sent instruments to all eight planets (and Pluto). JILA, previously known as the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, was founded in 1962 as a collaboration with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. It’s one of the world’s leading research institutions in physical science, pursuing topics like atomic & molecular physics, astrophysics, laser physics, and nanoscience.

CU Boulder is also the site of the University of Colorado system’s School of Law, established in 1892.
