Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech) is the largest community college in North Carolina, made up of multiple campuses and education centers in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the surrounding Wake County area. It was chartered in 1958 and opened its doors to students as the Wake County Industrial Education Center in 1963. It underwent several name changes before adopting its current name in 1987. The school colors are navy blue and gold, and its mascot is an eagle.

Academic Offerings

Today, it offers a wide variety of programs both for credit and non-credit. The for-credit programs lead to more than 200 associate’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates in science, applied science, the arts, and general education. Fields of study include applied engineering & technologies; business & public services technologies; health sciences; arts, humanities, and social sciences; information technology; and mathematics, sciences, and engineering. The non-credit programs are intended for professional and personal enrichment, and they include high-school credential completion as well as ESL and bilingual courses.

On Campus

The Perry Health Sciences Campus, located in Raleigh, North Carolina, is geared toward students pursuing careers in the fields of nursing, dental hygiene, emergency medical science, and other health care professions. It partners with the WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh and other local health care institutions to give students hands-on experience and cooperative working opportunities. The campus features a nursing simulation suite, an EMS ambulance bay, and an emergency services training environment. The campus also hosts the Wake Early College of Health and Sciences, which partners with the local public school system to let students work toward a high-school degree and an associate’s degree simultaneously.

Campus amenities include dental clinics, a clocktower amphitheater, radiology labs, and a simulation suite with patient rooms, control rooms, and debriefing rooms. Other student services offered on campus are a library and study areas, a tutoring center, Student Success Counselors, a bookstore, a distance education testing center, and computer labs.
