Wake Tech RTP Campus International Student Insurance

Wake Technical Community College (Wake Tech) is the largest community college in North Carolina, made up of multiple campuses and education centers in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the surrounding Wake County area. It was chartered in 1958 and opened its doors to students as the Wake County Industrial Education Center in 1963. It underwent several name changes before adopting its current name in 1987. The school colors are navy blue and gold, and its mascot is an eagle.

Academic Offerings

Today, it offers a wide variety of programs both for credit and non-credit. The for-credit programs lead to more than 200 associate’s degrees, diplomas, and certificates in science, applied science, the arts, and general education. Fields of study include applied engineering & technologies; business & public services technologies; health sciences; arts, humanities, and social sciences; information technology; and mathematics, sciences, and engineering. The non-credit programs are intended for professional and personal enrichment, and they include high-school credential completion as well as ESL and bilingual courses.

On Campus

The Research Triangle Park Campus (RTP Campus), located in Morrisville, North Carolina, opened in 2018. The first building opened in that year, and as of 2020, there are plans for 9 more instructional buildings with a potential capacity of 7,000 students. Career Programs include fields like accounting, business administration, business analytics, IT cybersecurity, IT technical support, and supply chain management. It also offers Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and Associate in Engineering degrees, as well as a non-degree computer technology program. The campus also offers dual enrollment for high school students.

The campus’s second building is under construction and is slated to open in summer or fall of 2021. Facilities will include classrooms and labs for general study, business analytics, and biotechnology; a “classroom of the future” to allow faculty to experiment with new teaching technologies, and a corporate partnership meeting area to facilitate engagement between students and local companies. 

Current campus amenities include computer labs, a library, a bookstore, career resources, disability support services, financial aid services, veterans services, and The Nest food pantry.
